Alan earned a Master of Architecture from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Tufts University. In addition to his architecture experience, Alan has worked in contracting and cabinetmaking.

Outside the practice, Alan is an adjunct professor and visiting critic at local architecture schools, serves on the boards of multiple non-profit community and cultural organizations, and is an amateur musician.
