Dickens 200 Exhibition, Free Library of Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA

Metcalfe created 22 miniature stage sets, based on Dickens’ life and work, in a heavily-used public corridor on the first floor of the Philadelphia Free Library’s Beaux Arts building. Employing the “toy theater” tradition that flourished across Europe in Dickens’ lifetime, the exhibition celebrates his work and the many interpretations of it in print, stage, and film.
