Bank Branch Design, Valley Green Bank

Philadelphia, PA

Valley Green Bank selected Metcalfe to renovate a 3,800 SF former social services building to house their fifth branch. Capitalizing on the building’s unusual site placement, we created usable public and green spaces at the building’s exterior, complete with prominent signage. We improved the building’s façade by replacing existing exterior masonry walls with clear glass, creating a transparency which activates the facade on two street frontages. Metcalfe also relocated an existing stair to open the interior and flood the space with natural light. These renovations have allowed Valley Green Bank to become a dynamic part of its South Philadelphia neighborhood.

2014 Winner of the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department and the Community Design Collaborative Storefront Challenge, Best Overall Design

“Metcalfe accomplished what we envision for South Philadelphia - a building that respected the community and the existing streetscape.”
